Gallstones vs Indigestion : Why Recurrent Bloating After Meals Should Not Be Ignored

I am 45 years old, and for the past few months I have been experiencing frequent bloating, indigestion, and discomfort after meals, especially after eating fried or oily food. Sometimes I also feel mild pain in the upper abdomen, but it is not very severe. Initially, I thought it was just a digestive issue, but the symptoms are recurring quite often. My mother suggested that it could be related to gallstones. Could gallstones cause these kinds of symptoms, and how can I confirm the actual cause?

From what you’ve described, your symptoms could be related to gallbladder issues, including gallstones, but they can also overlap with general digestive problems like acidity or dyspepsia.

Gallstones often cause discomfort in the upper abdomen, especially after fatty meals, along with bloating, indigestion, nausea, or mild pain. To accurately determine the cause, an abdominal ultrasound is recommended, as it is the most effective and non-invasive way to detect gallstones. If gallstones are present and symptoms are recurrent, surgical removal of the gallbladder is usually advised.

However, if no stones are found, your symptoms may be managed with dietary changes and medications as per the underlying digestive condition. Proper diagnosis is essential before deciding the treatment approach.
