Liposuction for Abdomen & Thighs : Procedure, Safety, Recovery & Risks

I am considering liposuction, as I have gained weight recently due to a sedentary lifestyle, and now I have significant fat accumulation in my abdomen as well as thighs. My current weight is around 105 kg and earlier it used to be around 90–94 kg. I wanted to understand whether liposuction can target both areas in one session or if it is better to focus on one area at a time. Also, I have read about possible complications online, including serious risks, so I would like to know how safe the procedure is, what kind of anesthesia is used, and what recovery looks like after the surgery.

Liposuction is a safe and commonly performed cosmetic procedure used to remove stubborn fat deposits from areas like the abdomen, flanks, and thighs. It involves making small hidden incisions (usually near the navel or groin) through which excess fat is suctioned out. In one session, approximately 8–10 liters of fat can be safely removed, depending on your body weight and overall health. While it is technically possible to treat multiple areas like the abdomen and thighs together, it is often more effective to focus on one primary area to achieve better contouring results.

The procedure usually takes around 1.5–2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia for better comfort and safety, especially for larger areas like the abdomen. After surgery, a one-day hospital stay is generally required, and you can resume light daily activities from the next day. However, wearing a compression (pressure) garment for 4–6 weeks is essential to help skin tightening and proper healing. Full skin contraction and final results may take around 3–6 months, supported by exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

Regarding safety, serious complications are extremely rare when the procedure is done by an experienced surgeon in a proper medical setup. Common temporary side effects may include mild swelling, loose skin, or small lumps, which usually settle over time. Overall, liposuction has a favorable risk-benefit profile when done under proper guidance, and a physical examination is recommended before final planning.
