Medical Abortion Consultation : Pain, Vomiting, Ultrasound & Next Steps
2 months ago
I have been experiencing abdominal pain after taking medical abortion tablets. I have taken multiple doses as advised, but I have had vomiting after taking the medicine and still no proper bleeding. My ultrasound shows around 8–9 weeks of pregnancy. I am feeling discomfort and unsure whether the medicines are working or not. Could you please guide what is happening, whether the treatment is effective, and what should be the next step?

From your history, it appears that multiple doses of medical abortion tablets have already been taken, but there is still no adequate bleeding and symptoms like pain and vomiting are present. This may indicate that the process is incomplete or not responding as expected.
At around 8–9 weeks of pregnancy, medical abortion can sometimes be less predictable, and factors like vomiting after taking medication may reduce its effectiveness. In such cases, an ultrasound evaluation is very important to assess whether the pregnancy is progressing or if any retained tissue is present.
If the medical method is not successful, a surgical procedure (commonly uterine evacuation/cleaning) is usually recommended to safely complete the process and relieve symptoms. Continuing to take more medication without proper supervision is not advisable at this stage.
Since you are experiencing pain and have already taken multiple doses, it is important to seek in-person medical care promptly. A doctor can examine you, review the ultrasound, and suggest the safest next step, which may include a procedure if needed. If bleeding increases, pain worsens, or symptoms become severe, immediate hospital visit is recommended.
