Recurrent Miscarriage Consultation : Fibroids, Thyroid & IVF Planning
2 months ago
My wife has been experiencing recurrent miscarriages. She is able to conceive easily, but every pregnancy ends in early miscarriage within the first trimester. We have already done multiple tests including blood work, karyotyping, semen analysis, and ultrasound scans, and most reports are normal except for a fibroid and a history of thyroid issues (currently controlled with medication). We want to understand what could be causing these repeated losses and what further evaluation or treatment steps we should consider. Is surgery required, and can this improve the chances of a successful pregnancy?

When pregnancy occurs but doesn’t continue (recurrent pregnancy loss), it’s important to carefully check uterine factors especially fibroids, through a detailed scan. A procedure like hysterolaparoscopy (DHL) can help diagnose and treat issues at the same time, including fibroid removal and checking for hidden conditions like uterine abnormalities or infections.
If all other tests are normal, correcting any uterine problem becomes the main focus before IVF. Fibroid removal (if needed) is usually safe with quick recovery for daily activities. Once underlying issues are treated and thyroid levels are well-controlled, the chances of a successful pregnancy improve significantly.
