Lipoma (Fat Lumps) on Body : Causes, Surgery & Recovery Explained
1 month ago
I developed small lumps on my stomach and hand after weight gain during lockdown. Tests like ultrasound and CT scan suggested they are lipomas, but now they have slightly increased in size. Should I get them removed, and what are the risks, recurrence chances, and recovery after surgery?

Lipomas are benign fatty lumps that form under the skin due to genetic reasons and are not related to weight gain, diet, or lifestyle. If they are small and not causing discomfort, they can be left as it is and monitored.
However, if they are increasing in size, causing discomfort, or cosmetically concerning, they can be removed through a simple minor surgery where a small incision is made and the lump is taken out completely. The procedure is done under anesthesia, so there is no pain during surgery, and only mild discomfort may be present afterward.
Recovery is quick, and you can usually resume normal activities within a day or two. Removal of one lipoma does not cause others to form, but new lipomas may still appear over time due to genetic tendency. It is best to consult with a doctor and decide based on your symptoms and comfort.
