Sudden Ear Pain with Mild Hearing Loss : Is It Due to Wax or Infection?

I suddenly developed severe pain in my right ear for the last 2 days. I did not have any previous ear issues. There is no cold or cough, but I did feel a slight fever due to the pain. Since yesterday, I also feel a little decrease in hearing in that ear. I haven’t inserted anything into my ear recently. I took a painkiller and used ear drops, which gave temporary relief. Could this be due to earwax or an infection? What should I do now?

Based on your symptoms, it could be due to earwax buildup or a mild ear infection causing pain and slight hearing reduction.

You should continue using the prescribed ear drops (like Autogesic) with 3 drops, 3 times a day for the next 2–3 days, along with steam inhalation and pain relief medication as advised.

These drops help in softening and dissolving the wax if present. If your symptoms do not improve or pain persists, it is important to get your ear physically examined by a doctor, as cleaning or further treatment may be required depending on the cause.
