Can low water intake cause frequent urine infections or bladder problems?

I avoid drinking too much water while travelling because public washrooms are so inconvenient. Now I’m getting frequent urine infections. Can low water intake alone create long term bladder problems?

Consistently low water intake can definitely contribute to recurrent urinary issues, especially if it becomes a habit over time.
When you drink less water, urine becomes more concentrated, which irritates the bladder lining and also allows bacteria to grow more easily. This doesn’t mean it directly “creates disease” on its own, but it does increase the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections, burning sensation, and bladder discomfort.
In many patients we see, travel-related fluid restriction becomes a pattern, and over months it leads to a cycle of irritation and infections. The bladder itself usually doesn’t get “permanently damaged” from this alone, but chronic under-hydration can definitely keep symptoms recurring and make the urinary tract more sensitive.
The key is balance, you don’t need excessive water, but regular hydration throughout the day, even while travelling, is important to keep the urinary system flushed and healthy.
