Why is my period late after taking an emergency pill?

Hi doctor, I was intimate on 22nd April and I took an emergency pill on 23rd April. About one week later, on 29th April, I had bleeding. My expected period date was 15th May, but it still hasn’t come. What should I do now? Is this normal or could it be pregnancy?”

A delayed period after taking an emergency contraceptive pill is quite common. These pills contain hormones that can temporarily affect your menstrual cycle, causing your next period to come earlier or later than expected. Some women may also experience spotting, mild cramps, nausea, or changes in flow.

However, if your period is delayed by more than a week, it is a good idea to take a pregnancy test, as emergency pills are not 100% effective. If the test is positive or your symptoms continue, consult a gynecologist for further evaluation and guidance.
