What causes swollen tonsils with white patches and fever?
I have had a severe sore throat for the last 4 days, and my tonsils are swollen with white patches. It hurts a lot when I swallow, and I also have a fever. Could this be tonsillitis, or is it something more serious?

Your symptoms, a severe sore throat, swollen tonsils with white patches, painful swallowing, and fever are commonly seen with tonsillitis, which may be caused by a viral or bacterial infection, including strep throat. However, these symptoms should be evaluated by a doctor to determine the exact cause.
Consult an ENT specialist or physician as soon as possible. They may recommend a throat examination and, if needed, a throat swab or other tests. Seek urgent medical attention if you have difficulty breathing, are unable to swallow fluids, develop severe swelling on one side of the throat, or have persistent high fever.
