Gynecomastia is a very common condition in men, and it can definitely be treated safely through surgery. Your question about whether to undergo surgery in a government/ESI hospital or a private hospital is quite valid — especially since cost and coverage are major factors. Let me clarify this for you

1. Some government and ESI hospitals do perform gynecomastia surgeries, especially when the condition causes discomfort, pain, or psychological distress.

-Whether the procedure is categorized as reconstructive (medically indicated) or purely cosmetic.

-The individual hospital’s policy and available plastic surgery facilities.

-Whether you are eligible under the ESI scheme and the approval criteria of your local ESI dispensary/hospital.

You can visit your nearest ESI or government plastic surgery department and get evaluated. The surgeon there will tell you if your case qualifies for treatment under ESI benefits.

2. In private hospitals, gynecomastia surgery is a routine, day-care procedure done by qualified plastic surgeons.
The cost generally depends on:

-The grade of gynecomastia (I to III)
-Technique used (liposuction, gland excision, or both)
-City and hospital category

On average, the cost in private hospitals ranges between ₹40,000 to ₹1,00,000, including surgery, anaesthesia, and compression garments. Most patients are discharged the same day and can return to work within 2–3 days.

My advice is to start with a consultation at your ESI facility for documentation, but simultaneously consult with two or three reputable private surgeons to gather comparative quotes and treatment plans.
