Does Tonsillectomy Fully Stop Chronic Tonsillitis in Adults or Can Infections Return?

I am an adult and have had chronic tonsillitis for years. Each infection leaves me bedridden for a week, affecting work and family life. My doctor advised tonsillectomy, but I am scared will surgery fully resolve the problem, or is there a chance that tonsil infections can return even after removal?
