Does Surgery Cure Sleep Apnea?Throat Infection
3 months ago
I suffer from sleep apnea, and my doctor suggested a throat surgery to widen my airway. I am confused because some people say surgery doesn’t always cure sleep apnea completely. Does throat surgery really help with sleep disorders, and how do doctors decide if a patient is a good candidate for it?

Sleep apnea can have multiple causes, including blocked airways in the throat, nasal passages, or weight-related narrowing. Throat surgery can significantly help when tissue obstruction is the main issue, but it may not completely cure apnea if other factors are involved. Doctors usually perform sleep studies and endoscopic examinations to determine if surgery is appropriate. Many patients experience improvement in snoring, breathing, and daytime energy after surgery, but some may still require complementary treatments like CPAP or weight management. Surgical planning is individualized, weighing risks and benefits to ensure optimal results.
