Is knee stiffness and mild pain normal after ACL reconstruction, and how long does it take to regain full range of motion?

I recently underwent ACL reconstruction. My knee still feels stiff and slightly painful. Is this normal during recovery, and how long does it take to regain full range of motion?

Some stiffness, mild pain, and swelling are normal in the first few weeks after ACL reconstruction. Early physiotherapy helps restore motion gradually and prevent joint stiffness. Most patients regain nearly full range of motion within two to three months, though minor stiffness may persist for a bit longer in some cases. Consistent stretching, strengthening, and functional exercises are critical for recovery. Pain usually decreases steadily as the knee heals. Communication with your physiotherapist ensures exercises are effective but not overstraining the joint. Full recovery and confidence in movement typically occur over six to nine months.
