Can I return to the same level of basketball after ACL surgery, or will my knee remain weak?

I am 22 and an amateur basketball player. I tore my ACL and was told surgery is needed. I’m worried about long-term performance will I be able to play at the same level again, or will my knee always feel weak?

Modern ACL reconstruction is highly effective in restoring knee strength, stability, and performance for athletes. With proper physiotherapy, most basketball players return to their previous level of play within six to nine months. The knee may feel slightly different initially, but muscle strengthening and agility training restore confidence. Following rehabilitation protocols and avoiding premature high-intensity activity is key. Long-term weakness or giving way is uncommon if recovery is thorough. Many athletes resume competitive play without limitations and achieve excellent functional outcomes
