Bilateral Varicocele: Meaning, Microsurgery Success, and Recovery Tips
9 months ago
I was told I have bilateral varicocele. What is the exact bilateral varicocele meaning, and how is it different from right-sided varicocele? What is the varicocele microsurgery success rate, and are the images after varicocele surgery helpful to understand recovery? Also, does using a varicocele supporter really help with pain and daily activities?

As your doctor, I want to clarify your concerns. Bilateral varicocele means that enlarged veins are present on both sides of the scrotum, whereas a right-sided varicocele affects only the right testicle. Bilateral involvement is more likely to impact fertility or cause discomfort than a unilateral varicocele.
Microscopic varicocelectomy has a high success rate of around 90–95% for both symptom relief and improving sperm quality, with very low recurrence.
Images after surgery are mostly for documentation and monitoring, but your physical examination and follow-up ultrasound provide the most useful information about recovery. Additionally, a varicocele supporter may help relieve discomfort temporarily and make daily activities easier, but it does not treat the underlying varicocele.
