Can Hydrocele Be Inherited by Children?Hydrocele
9 months ago
I was told I might have an inguinal hernia hydrocele, and I currently have bilateral mild hydrocele symptoms. What treatment is best for mild hydrocele and bilateral hydroceles? Can it be transferred to my children? Can a hydrocele in children resolve on its own, or does it need surgery?

I understand your concern. A mild hydrocele, whether unilateral or bilateral, is usually harmless and often does not require surgery if it doesn’t cause pain or interfere with daily life. The best approach is monitoring and symptom management, with pain relief via paracetamol or NSAIDs if needed.
Hydroceles are not contagious or hereditary, so they cannot be “transferred” to your children. In children and newborns, hydroceles are often due to a naturally open channel in the groin and usually resolve on their own within the first year. Surgery in children is only considered if the hydrocele persists beyond 12–18 months, is large, or is associated with a hernia.
For adults, long-term management focuses on observation, comfort, and treating complications if they arise.
