Cataract Surgery Options & Cost for a Old Patient (Without Insurance)
My 61-year-old mother has been diagnosed with cataract at Nancy Hospital in Vashi. They have slightly high blood sugar (170) but no major health issues. We do not have insurance. Can you tell me what type of surgery is recommended, what lens options are available, the total cost, and whether imported lenses are necessary?

For your mother, we recommend MICS (Micro-Incision Cataract Surgery). It is a quick and safe procedure, usually completed in 10–15 minutes, with minimal discomfort.
We use standard hydrophobic lenses, which are water-resistant, lifelong, and require no maintenance. The package cost for MICS surgery with a hydrophobic lens in Mumbai is ₹33,500.
Imported lenses like Alcon or Johnson & Johnson are available at ₹36,000–₹40,000, but they are not necessary, as high-quality Indian lenses like Care Bules provide excellent results.
The surgery is safe for patients with slightly high blood sugar, but it’s recommended to keep blood sugar under control before the procedure.
