Endometriotic (chocolate) cyst difference from normal cysts and treatment approach

I often get severe period cramps and heavy bleeding. The doctor found a cyst and suspects it might be an endometriotic cyst (chocolate cyst). How are these different from normal ovarian cysts, and do they need special treatment?

Endometriotic cysts form when endometriosis affects the ovary, filling the cyst with old menstrual blood and giving it the chocolate appearance. They are different from simple functional cysts because they are part of a chronic condition that often causes ongoing pelvic pain and painful periods and can affect fertility.

Treating endometriomas often involves more than removing the cyst; doctors may use hormonal medicines to suppress endometriosis and may perform laparoscopic surgery to remove disease while trying to preserve ovarian tissue.

The best approach depends on your pain, fertility plans, cyst size, and whether the disease is more widespread.

Severe period cramps and heavy bleeding with an endometriotic (chocolate) cyst are different from normal ovarian cysts and may require specialized treatment.
So consult a gynecologist through face-to-face consultation, call, or message for proper evaluation.
