How long does dengue fever usually last, and when should I start worrying?

Last week, my brother was diagnosed with dengue, and it has been quite stressful for our whole family. His fever was very high for the first few days, and even now he still feels weak and tired. It made me wonder how long does dengue fever usually last? At what point should we start worrying if the recovery seems slow? I’m just trying to understand what is normal and what is not during dengue recovery.

Dengue fever typically lasts for about 7 to 10 days. The high fever phase usually continues for 2–5 days, followed by a recovery phase where weakness and fatigue may persist for a couple of weeks.

However, the most critical period is when the fever starts coming down, as this is when complications like low platelet count can occur. If there are warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, or extreme weakness, immediate medical attention is needed.

Gradual recovery is normal, but close monitoring during the illness is very important.
