Is dengue a communicable disease? Can it spread from person to person?

A colleague in my office recently got dengue, and ever since then, I’ve been worried about catching it too. We share the same workspace, and I was wondering if dengue can spread through close contact like other infections. Do I need to take any precautions while being around someone who has dengue, or is it only related to mosquito bites?

Dengue is considered a communicable disease, but it does not spread directly from person to person through touch, air, or sharing food.

It spreads through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. A mosquito becomes infected after biting a dengue-infected person and then transmits the virus to another person through its bite.

So, the real risk comes from mosquito exposure, not direct contact. Preventing mosquito bites is the key to staying safe.
