Long-Standing Leg Lump (Cyst) Increasing in Size – Do I Need Surgery or Biopsy
3 weeks ago
I have a lump (cyst) on my leg for the past 3–4 years. Earlier it was small and painless, but over time it has slowly increased in size. For the last 6–8 months, the size has remained almost the same. It is hard when I press it, does not move, and there is no pain in the lump itself, but I feel some discomfort in the surrounding area. What could this be, and do I need surgery or any tests like biopsy?

A long-standing lump in the leg that is slowly increasing in size could be a cyst or another type of swelling. Since it is hard, non-movable, and has been present for years, it is important to get it properly evaluated.
Doctors usually recommend imaging (like ultrasound) and, in some cases, surgical removal of the lump followed by a biopsy.
A biopsy helps confirm the exact nature of the swelling and rule out any serious condition. Even if it is painless, it’s better to get it checked and treated early to avoid complications.
