Pubertal gynecomastia is common in teenage boys due to temporary hormonal changes. In most cases, it reduces naturally by late teens. Persistent cases may cause cosmetic concerns and affect self-confidence.
Surgery is an option if the breast tissue does not resolve. The procedure involves liposuction and gland excision through a small incision at the areola, with dissolvable stitches and minimal scarring. A compression garment is worn for ~6 weeks.
It’s done under general anesthesia as day-care surgery. Teens can resume light activities immediately, but heavy exercise should wait until fully healed. Surgery is cosmetic only and does not affect chest function.
Parental consent and guidance from a qualified plastic surgeon are essential.
