Why is pregnancy tissue still remaining after abortion pills?

The doctor prescribed me abortion pills because I was pregnant, and I started taking them on April 22nd. On May 6th, I visited the doctor again. She said that pregnancy tissue was still remaining in my uterus, so she prescribed me another medication for 3 days. After taking those pills, I did not bleed, but a white, cheese-like discharge started coming out of my vagina. On May 18th, I saw the doctor again, but she said the pregnancy tissue was still present and prescribed the same 3-day medication again. Now it is May 21st, and a small amount of blood is coming out of my vagina. I don’t know what the problem is.

Mild bleeding after taking abortion medicines can happen if the body is still trying to remove remaining pregnancy tissue. The white, cheese-like discharge may sometimes suggest a vaginal infection, especially if there is itching or bad smell. Since retained tissue was still seen on ultrasound, regular follow up with your gynecologist is important to make sure the uterus clears completely and to avoid complications.
