Simple ovarian cyst when to worry, risk of complications, and need for second opinion?

I recently had an ultrasound and the report showed a 4 cm ovarian cyst. The doctor i consulted said it’s “simple” and may dissolve on its own, but I’m worried. How do I know if it’s really harmless or could turn into something big with time or serious like cancer? Should I get a second opinion?

A 4 cm simple cyst is commonly the type that forms with your menstrual cycle and often goes away on its own over a few cycles. Most small, simple cysts are benign and do not become cancerous. Doctors usually recommend a repeat ultrasound after a month or two to check whether it has shrunk, unless you develop new or worsening pain or the scan looked unusual.

If the ultrasound shows complex features, if the cyst grows quickly, or if you have a strong family history of ovarian cancer, asking for blood tests or a second opinion is reasonable and will give extra reassurance.
