Is My Scalp Lump Just a Cyst or Something Serious?

I have noticed a small, round lump under the skin on my scalp that sometimes feels a little tender. My doctor said it might be a sebaceous cyst. How can I be sure it’s harmless and not a more serious skin condition or tumor?

If you notice a small, round lump under the skin on your scalp that is slightly tender, it may be a sebaceous cyst, which is usually harmless.

To be sure it’s not more serious, your doctor may do a physical exam, use imaging like ultrasound, or sometimes perform a biopsy or removal for confirmation.

Sebaceous cysts are generally safe, but any rapid growth, pain, color change, or discharge should be evaluated promptly.
