My Mother Has a Large Fibroid After Menopause , Should We Worry?
My mother has been diagnosed with an 8 cm fibroid and she has already gone through menopause. Is it normal to have fibroids after menopause? Do they go away on their own, or is treatment necessary?

Fibroids can be present even after menopause, although the chances of new fibroids developing after menopause are generally low. In many cases, the fibroid may have been present before menopause and was detected later during investigations done for some other reason.
If your mother does not have any symptoms such as bleeding, abdominal pain, pelvic discomfort, urinary problems, or bowel issues, then no immediate treatment is required. One of the important aspects of fibroids is that treatment is usually needed only when they cause symptoms or affect quality of life. Since estrogen levels drop after menopause, fibroids often stop growing and may even shrink over time.
However, if the fibroid starts causing symptoms, increases in size, or leads to any discomfort or complications, medical evaluation and treatment become necessary. Regular follow-up with a doctor is advised to monitor the fibroid and ensure there are no concerning changes.
