Gynecomastia After Weightlifting at 17 : Causes and What to Do

I’m 17 years old and have never been overweight. I started going to the gym about a year ago, and I feel like I developed gynecomastia after weightlifting. I’m noticing that my chest looks saggy. What should I do?

What you’re noticing is common among young men who do weight training. The pumped muscles from weightlifting can push the underlying gland forward, making it look more prominent.

Here’s a simple way to understand it: the chest muscles have two main parts upper chest and lower chest. Regular gym-goers usually develop a well-defined upper chest with exercise, but the lower chest often hides the gynecomastia gland, which can then appear more noticeable as the muscle above becomes bulkier.

In such cases, the ideal approach is to treat the gynecomastia itself. By addressing the gland, the lower chest area becomes flatter and more proportionate. After treatment, when you continue your workouts, the definition of your lower chest muscles will show better, giving your chest a more even and natural shape.
