Gynecomastia : Who to Consult First Physician or Surgeon?
I am noticing early signs of gynecomastia. I feel a small bulge in a chest. Should I go directly to a plastic surgeon, or first consult a physician or an internal medicine doctor? What is the general consultation route for patients?

Gynecomastia usually presents as a swelling in the chest fat. Ideally, it is a good idea to connect with a plastic surgeon for evaluation. However, in many cases, gynecomastia starts during puberty, and at that time, children are often under the care of family doctors or pediatricians.
If the patient visits their pediatrician or physician first, the doctor may perform a hormonal evaluation to check if everything is normal. If no underlying hormonal issues are found, the physician can then refer the patient to a plastic surgeon for further assessment and management. This is the general route most patients follow.
