Is vasectomy safe, does it affect sex life, and what precautions are needed after the procedure
2 months ago
Hi doctor, I am planning to go for a vasectomy and wanted to clarify a few things before deciding. Will this procedure cause any hormonal imbalance or affect my sex life in any way? Also, how painful is the procedure and recovery? What precautions should I follow after surgery, especially regarding sex, alcohol, and daily routine? Lastly, are there any chances of failure or long-term side effects?

Vasectomy is a safe and minor procedure that only blocks the tubes carrying sperm and does not affect hormones or sex life in any way. You will still have normal erections, libido, and performance.
The procedure is usually done under local anesthesia, so there is minimal pain during surgery and only mild discomfort afterward, which can be managed with painkillers. Recovery is quick, and most daily activities can be resumed within a few days.
However, you should use protection for about 3 months until sperm clearance is confirmed. Alcohol may need to be avoided while on certain medications. The chances of failure are extremely low, and it is generally considered a one-time permanent solution without long term side effects.
Vasectomy is a very safe surgery and completely devoid of any side effects. There wont be any hormonal disturbances nor will it affect your sex life. Its a very simple and a small procedure whereby which we stop the sperms from travelling from your testes up, thereby you will be ejaculating only fluid without the sperms. Its just like disconnecting a pipe. That’s all. Its done through a small hole. So there will not be any pain and thus recover is within 24 to 48 hrs. After surgery you can walk, eat, drink regularly, but i would suggest to avoid smoking and alcohol for 2 weeks there are very very minimal chances of failure
