Septoplasty Recovery: Pain, Breathing, and Return to Routine?Septoplasty
3 months ago
I am planning to undergo septoplasty but I am very concerned about the pain and recovery. How long does it take before I can breathe normally, resume office work, and sleep without discomfort? Are there strict restrictions on diet, exercise, or travel after the procedure?

Septoplasty is generally a well-tolerated procedure and most patients describe the discomfort as mild to moderate rather than severe. Breathing usually starts improving within a week once the swelling reduces, although full recovery may take a few weeks. Most people are able to return to office work in about 7 to 10 days, while more active tasks like exercise or heavy lifting should be avoided for around 3 to 4 weeks. Sleep becomes easier once the nasal passages open, though you may need to sleep with your head elevated for the first few nights. There are usually no strict restrictions on diet, but it is best to avoid very spicy or hot foods initially as they may cause irritation. Travel is usually fine after a couple of weeks once your doctor confirms healing is on track.
