I’ve been advised surgery for varicocele and want to understand my options. What is the varicocele embolization success rate compared to varicocele microsurgery success rate? How effective is varicocele laparoscopic procedure?

For your better understanding, let me explain the treatment options briefly. Varicocele microsurgery is considered the most effective, with a success rate of around 90-95% for symptom relief and improving sperm quality. It has a very low recurrence and complication rate. Varicocele embolization, on the other hand, is a minimally invasive alternative, where the abnormal veins are blocked using a catheter. Its success rate is slightly lower, around 85-90%, but it offers quicker recovery and avoids surgical incisions.
Laparoscopic varicocelectomy is another surgical option, but it is less commonly used for routine varicocele because it carries slightly higher risks, including injury to surrounding structures, and usually requires general anesthesia.
Depending on your symptoms, fertility goals, and overall health, your doctor will decide the best option for you.
