Fertility After 45 : Can You Conceive Naturally?
I am 47 years old, and we have been trying for a baby for a long time. My husband is refusing IVF because he doesn’t want a baby from someone else. How can I get naturally pregnant with my husband?

At the age of 47, your husband’s sperm count is likely not a problem because in men, sperm production generally remains healthy until later in life. In women, however, the egg reserve declines and is usually exhausted by around 45. The uterus, however, can still carry a pregnancy beyond this age.
If your egg is not viable due to age, using a donor egg does not mean the baby is from someone else in terms of genetics. The sperm is your husband’s, and you will carry the baby in your body for nine months. Recent studies show that the baby also receives genetic influence from your body through blood flow, nutrients, and environment during pregnancy. So genetically and biologically, the baby is yours and your husband’s.
Egg donation is simply a way to overcome the natural decline in egg quality with age. Your husband’s concern about the baby not being his is a misconception because the baby will still carry his genes. You are carrying, nurturing, and delivering the baby it is yours, and no one will remember or care whether it was from your egg or a donor egg once the baby is born.
So there is no reason to avoid having a child due to age or low egg count. If your doctor recommends egg donation, it is safe and can help you achieve pregnancy, and the child will be fully yours and your husband’s.
