Is Tympanoplasty Surgery a Safe Option?

I had a chronic ear infection which led to a hole in my eardrum. My ENT has advised tympanoplasty. I am very scared of surgery, is this surgery safe, and does it really restore hearing completely?

Tympanoplasty is a common surgery and generally considered very safe. The main goal is to close the hole in your eardrum and reduce infections. Many patients also notice improvement in hearing, but whether it becomes completely normal depends on how healthy the middle ear bones and inner ear are. Most people do get significant benefit, both in terms of fewer infections and better hearing.
