Is vasectomy safe, does it affect sex life, and what precautions are needed after the procedure
6 days ago
Hi doctor, I am planning to go for a vasectomy and wanted to clarify a few things before deciding. Will this procedure cause any hormonal imbalance or affect my sex life in any way? Also, how painful is the procedure and recovery? What precautions should I follow after surgery, especially regarding sex, alcohol, and daily routine? Lastly, are there any chances of failure or long-term side effects?

Vasectomy is a safe and minor procedure that only blocks the tubes carrying sperm and does not affect hormones or sex life in any way. You will still have normal erections, libido, and performance.
The procedure is usually done under local anesthesia, so there is minimal pain during surgery and only mild discomfort afterward, which can be managed with painkillers. Recovery is quick, and most daily activities can be resumed within a few days.
However, you should use protection (like condoms) for about 3 months until sperm clearance is confirmed. Alcohol may need to be avoided while on certain medications. The chances of failure are extremely low, and it is generally considered a one-time permanent solution without long-term side effects.
