Ovarian Cyst Surgery and CA-125 Concerns
Smita, 44 years old, mother of two daughter (22 and 16), wants to know about her ovarian cyst surgery. She asks whether only the cyst can be removed without removing the ovary, whether the uterus needs removal, and if there are risks associated with removing one ovary. She also wants to know about the CA-125 test results, the surgical procedure, and post-operative precautions, including the need for bed rest.

Since you are 44 years old with two children, and your CA-125 is normal, the cyst can be removed while preserving the ovary.
The uterus does not need to be removed. If the biopsy shows cancer, further surgery may be required. The cyst will be removed by slightly enlarging the laparoscopic port.
After surgery, you will be discharged within two days, and your stitches’ dressing will be removed in 7–8 days. No extended bed rest is needed, and recovery is straightforward.”
