Trying for 2 Years Without Pregnancy After 35 : Is IVF the Right Next Step?

Ma'am, my husband and I have been trying for 2 years but not able to conceive. Should we go for IVF? Our age is above 35.

Age is a factor here, and since you’ve been trying naturally for 2 years without success, it’s time for active treatment, but not directly jumping to IVF. First, get basic tests done for both semen analysis, AMH, ultrasound for tubes/ovaries, thyroid, etc.  to find the exact cause, then decide the right step based on reports.

If parameters like tubes, semen count/motility and AMH are normal, start with simpler IUI (Intra-Uterine Insemination) it’s an OPD day care procedure give follicle-stimulating medicines from Day 2 of cycle for 5 days, monitor follicle growth, collect husband’s cleaned sperm sample (dead/non motile sperm removed), and place it directly in uterus with a thin catheter painless, no bed rest needed, continue normal work/life after 10 hours, no restrictions.

IUI works well for unexplained infertility or mild issues in women around 35 who’ve only tried naturally so far; do 3-4 cycles first (success rate 10-20% per cycle). IVF is for blocked tubes, very low AMH/sperm or failed IUI don’t rush, tests will guide us properly
