Tympanoplasty in Teens: Effects on Growth & Activities?

My 14-year-old son has been advised tympanoplasty because of a perforated eardrum from repeated infections. As a parent, I’m nervous about his future will this surgery affect his growth, studies, or ability to swim and play sports?

Tympanoplasty does not interfere with growth or brain development, and your child can continue his studies normally. After surgery, doctors usually advise avoiding swimming for a few months until the ear has healed fully, but once it is healed, children can return to swimming and sports. The main advantage is that he will have fewer ear infections and better hearing, which helps in school performance and confidence.
