When should couples try IVF again after a failed cycle?

My first IVF cycle failed, and now I’m scared to try again. How do couples figure out whether it’s worth attempting a second or third cycle, and what changes in protocol or approach actually improve the chances after a failed attempt?

A failed cycle is extremely painful, but it doesn’t automatically mean future cycles will also fail. Doctors usually review the embryo quality, egg response, stimulation protocol, sperm function, and endometrial preparation.

Sometimes even a small adjustment such as changing the trigger, modifying the stimulation, switching to ICSI, or improving lining support can make a big difference.

The decision to try again is usually based on age, ovarian reserve, financial readiness, and the learnings from the first cycle. Many couples succeed in the second or third attempt because the doctor customizes the approach based on how the body responded earlier.

A clear discussion after the first cycle often brings clarity and confidence.
