Can cancer risk be inherited from grandparents even if parents are unaffected?

My grandfather had cancer but my parents both are healthy and never had any cancer. Can I still inherit the risk from my grandfather even if my parents did not get it, or hereditary cancer only comes directly from parents?

Yes, hereditary cancer risk can skip generations or be passed down even if your parents did not develop cancer. Genetic mutations associated with cancer can be inherited from grandparents and may be present in your parents without causing cancer in them, yet still be passed on to you.

It is advisable to consult a genetic counselor or oncologist for a detailed family history assessment and, if recommended, genetic testing to evaluate your personal risk.
