Could frequent nighttime urination be related to prostate enlargement?

My father wakes up 4-5 times every night to urinate and says the bladder never feels completely empty. Could this simply be aging or something related to prostate enlargement?

What you’re describing is very commonly associated with benign prostate enlargement (BPH) in older men rather than just “normal aging.”
Frequent night urination and the feeling of incomplete bladder emptying are classic symptoms we see when the prostate gradually increases in size and starts affecting urine flow. It doesn’t always cause pain, which is why many people ignore it initially or assume it’s age-related.
However, it’s important not to self-diagnose. Similar symptoms can also come from bladder issues, diabetes, or urinary infections. A simple evaluation — urine test, ultrasound, and prostate assessment — usually helps clarify the cause quickly.
The good news is that in most cases, this condition is very manageable with medications, and only a small percentage actually require surgery if symptoms become severe or complications develop.
