Is IVF Affordable? Understanding Minimum Costs and How Couples Decide

Is IVF cost-effective? I mean, what is the minimum cost of IVF, and is it affordable for everyone? How do couples decide if they can go for it?

It’s a bit difficult to give one fixed cost because every hospital has its own package, and every patient’s medical condition is different. But generally, the basic IVF cycle including investigations, medications, and the injections used for follicle growth usually comes to around 1.5 to 1.8 lakhs.
Now, the final cost depends a lot on the patient. If the woman is young, AMH is good, semen parameters are normal, and there are no medical issues, then the response to injections is usually better and medicines needed are fewer making the treatment more cost-effective. But if there are medical problems, obesity, smoking/alcohol history, high BMI, or severe male-factor issues, then more medicines or advanced techniques may be required, which can increase the cost.
If a couple has already had multiple failed IVF cycles somewhere else, then we often need to add extra techniques or advanced tests to improve their chances that can also add to the cost.
So yes, IVF can be cost-effective, but the exact cost depends entirely on the patient’s history, current health, and what additional steps are needed to improve success rates.
