Can LASIK improve both distance and close-up vision?

Can LASIK treat both distance and near vision problems together? My father is 45 and uses glasses for reading — will LASIK help him or is it only for short-sightedness?

LASIK is primarily used to correct distance vision problems such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. For people above 40 who develop presbyopia, which causes difficulty in reading, LASIK alone is not always a complete solution. Some surgeons offer monovision LASIK, where one eye is corrected for distance and the other for near tasks, but not everyone adapts well to it. Alternatives like multifocal lenses or other refractive procedures may be more suitable for reading vision correction.
