Is diabetes a genetic disease, and should I be worried if it runs in my family?

Diabetes runs in my family both my parents have it, and now I’m worried about my own risk. Does this mean I will definitely develop diabetes in the future? Is diabetes purely genetic, or can it be prevented with lifestyle changes?

Diabetes can have a genetic component, which means having a family history increases your risk. However, it is not entirely unavoidable.

Lifestyle factors like diet, physical activity, weight management, and stress control play a major role. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you can significantly reduce or delay the risk of developing diabetes.
