Is septoplasty necessary for deviated septum with runny nose and throat issues?
I am in 12th rn. I have deviated septum and turbinate hypertrophy. my ent dr recommend me septoplasty. I don't have breathing issue till now. yeah but I feel very suffocating while climbing stairs of 3rd floor I can't through my nose for few minutes. But that's not a problem for me. The thing that triggering me the most is constant runny nose, constant throat infection, post nasal drip, tonsil stones and I do mouth breathing at night sometimes my mother told me this. It's so irritating imaging giving papers while having runny nose. It disturbed the people around me as well in the class room. Should I do the surgery? since I have my boards in March I am thinking about doing surgery in November during Diwali vacation. But is the surgery is necessary? Also are this symptoms are relevant with deviated septum and swollen turbinate?

Yes, your symptoms like constant runny nose, post nasal drip, throat infections, tonsil stones, and mouth breathing are commonly associated with a deviated nasal septum and turbinate hypertrophy, as these conditions disrupt normal nasal airflow and drainage.
Septoplasty can help correct the structural issue and may significantly relieve these symptoms. Whether surgery is necessary depends on how much these symptoms affect your quality of life, and since they are clearly impacting your studies and daily comfort, it is worth discussing the timing and urgency with your ENT doctor.
Planning it during a vacation before your boards could be a reasonable approach, but confirm the recovery timeline with your surgeon.
Hi.. Ur problem of constant running nose is allergic rhinitis which can be kept under control with nasal spray and medications
Surgery is only to create a proper breathing passage for u to breath. Post nasal drip, throat infection, tonsil stones and ur other concerns are happening due to the deviated nasal septum. So if u want to get rid of this then surgery is a must..
