How Do Couples Emotionally Accept the Shift from IVF to Surrogacy?

After multiple IVF failures, doctors have suggested surrogacy, but emotionally it feels like a huge shift. How couples come to terms with choosing a surrogate, and what support systems usually help them process the fear, guilt, or uncertainty around this decision?

Surrogacy is a big emotional decision because it involves letting someone else carry your child. Many couples take time to accept this path and often benefit from counseling or support groups where they meet families who have gone through similar journeys. Understanding that surrogacy is a medical solution, not a personal failure, helps shift the mindset. Most couples find comfort when they learn about the process, speak with their care team, and feel reassured that the baby will still be genetically theirs.
