Post Circumcision Healing Concerns : Is Swelling and Skin Position Normal?
my child recently underwent a circumcision, and I’m a bit concerned about the healing. The skin doesn’t seem to be fully retracted and the tip is not clearly visible yet. There is some swelling, and it seems like the skin is still covering the area. Is this normal after the procedure, and will the skin naturally move back once the swelling reduces? Also, what should I do during cleaning and care?

Yes, what you’re observing is generally normal during the early healing phase after circumcision. Swelling is common for the first few weeks, and it can temporarily make the skin appear less retracted or cover the tip. As the swelling gradually reduces over 2–3 weeks, the skin usually settles into a more natural position, and the appearance improves.
It’s important to maintain proper hygiene by gently cleaning the area as advised by your doctor, without forcing the skin back aggressively. In most cases, the skin will reposition itself naturally as healing progresses.
The ring or dressing (if used) typically falls off within a couple of weeks, after which the area continues to heal. If you notice persistent swelling, redness, discharge, or if the appearance does not improve over time, it’s best to follow up with your doctor for a review.
