Cataract surgery side effects: Glare, halos, and double vision

I’ve been told I need cataract surgery, but I’m hesitant because I heard some people experience glare, halos, or double vision after surgery. How common are these side effects, and do they go away over time or can they be permanent?

Some patients notice halos or glare around lights, especially at night, in the first few weeks after surgery. This is usually part of the healing process and often improves as the eye adjusts. The choice of intraocular lens can also affect these symptoms — premium lenses may slightly increase halos but give more freedom from glasses. Permanent severe problems are rare. If any symptom persists, your doctor can guide you on adjustments or simple treatments to reduce discomfort.
