Can vision become cloudy again after cataract surgery?

My grandfather had cataract surgery a year ago and now complains of mild cloudiness again. Is it possible for cataracts to come back, or is this a different problem like posterior capsule opacification? What treatments are available if this happens?

Cataracts themselves don’t come back once the natural lens is removed. However, some patients develop posterior capsule opacification (PCO), which feels like cloudiness similar to a cataract. This is common and can happen months or years after surgery. Fortunately, it’s easily treated with a quick, painless laser procedure (YAG laser capsulotomy) that restores clarity immediately. It’s a one-time fix, and the problem doesn’t usually return.
