It is possible to experience a recurrence of piles symptoms such as pain, swelling, and mass formation even after surgery, especially if lifestyle factors like diet, constipation, or straining during bowel movements are not addressed.
This could indicate a recurrence of hemorrhoids or a related condition. It is important to consult your doctor for a proper examination and evaluation to determine the cause and appropriate next steps.

Operation is only a part of recovery and treatment for piles
It all depends on lifestyle diet water intake consistency of stools and weight management
If diet lifestyle and water intake is not healthy, you can have symptoms again even if actual piles is not there
Piles is swelling and symptoms are different
Every symptom cannot be piles

Persistent constipation / straining (most important)

Incomplete removal or untreated segments

Technique-related limitations

Different procedures have different recurrence profiles:

* Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy
→ Lowest recurrence but higher pain
* Stapled hemorrhoidopexy
→ Higher recurrence (especially prolapse)
* Laser hemorrhoidoplasty
→ Good early results, but recurrence if large grade III–IV

👉 If your patient had stapler/laser → recurrence at 1 year is not uncommon

Piles are a lifestyle disease. You need to take care of a proper diet which includes good fibre and probiotics along with adequate physical activity and good intake of water/liquids to keep yourself hydrated,throughout the day. Also, stool passage should be smooth and not with excessive straining.

The most common reason for re-occurrance of symptoms after piles surgery is constipation or hard stools. Often after recovering from piles patients tend to return to their previous lifestyle, which was responsible for piles development to begin with.
The best way to avoid this is by preventing constipation.
A normal stool means stools are soft enough that it doesn’t cause any stress while passing.
Diet and lifestyle changes are the main areas that need to be changed.
Natural plant based fibre and water combination helps in achieving normal stool consistency.
Avoidance of refined foods, animal source foods is important.
