Tailbone swelling and pain while sitting could it be pilonidal sinus?

I do work from home and sit around 10-12 hours daily. From few days I noticed some swelling and pain near tailbone area and it gets more bad while driving or sitting on hard chair. Can this be pilonidal sinus or just normal muscle pain ?

Pain and swelling near the tailbone that worsens with prolonged sitting, especially in people who work long hours sitting, can sometimes point toward a pilonidal sinus rather than simple muscle strain. Pilonidal issues are quite common in young adults who sit for extended periods, and early symptoms often start as discomfort, tenderness, or a small swelling near the cleft of the buttocks.
Muscle pain usually improves with rest and posture changes, while a pilonidal sinus may continue recurring, become more painful, or even develop redness, warmth, or discharge over time. It’s not something to panic about, but we wouldn’t advise ignoring it either, especially if the swelling persists or becomes painful while driving and sitting.

A quick examination by a general surgeon can usually confirm the diagnosis early and help prevent infection or abscess formation later. You can reach for free consultation at Pristyn Care.
